In life, we are faced with many choices…
Everyday a plethora of decisions need to be made just to make it through the day…what am I going to wear, what to eat, what route to take to work. Some aren’t so important and some are. When looking at the big picture there are choices made that can affect the core of who we are. These are the ones that count. They shape our lives and what we become. Not everyone will choose the same path. Some will pick ambition over laziness and vice versus. You get the picture, but where am I going with this? Why am I on this soapbox telling you about life? It’s because recently I came across a group that really got my attention. We will get into what they are about a little later, but what caught my eye was a photo of them standing on top of a summit. It wasn’t the beauty or the scenery, but a t-shirt they were wearing. The slogan was catchy.
It said, “You were born to do more than just pay bills and die.”
I began to think about my daily grind and to question some decisions I’ve made. Now I’ve seen the articles lately about quitting your job and becoming a ski-bum or naturist. Although this would be great I’m not quite to that point. However I am into getting more out of life and so is this group.
They go by Chasing Sunrise. They are a community that has a thorough understanding about the choices discussed above. Specifically regarding the choice of how to start the day and whether the day comes to you or you seize the day. I’m sure you can guess, but they choose Carpe Diem! According to their webpage each sunrise, there is a choice to make. Either stay in bed waiting for life to come to us or get up and get after it…chase what you want, get more out of life. And as they say this equals:
“More experiences. More adventures. More mind-blowing memories.”
Okay, when I first read that (I’m not going to lie) it got me pumped. It made me look into this philosophy a little more. What I found out was this community isn’t just hype. They actually live by these words. Enter their name…Chasing Sunrise. Most of us living in the mountains get out hike, run and explore. We look for areas or peaks of interest and take it to the summit. Well, so do they only one small difference. This group wakes before dawn and starts their journey long before most of us. The goal, to reach the top just before the sun peeks over the horizon. I don’t know about you, but this group seems like something I could get into and be a part of. Digging further I was disappointed to find out the organization is based in Canada. Don’t get me wrong, I love Canadians but it’s just a little too far to travel for a weekend hike!
Loving the idea, I had thoughts of contacting them and arranging something similar in my area. Then a few weeks later, I saw a post on Facebook.
My problem was solved.
How you ask…Chasing Tahoe! On August 29th the group from Chasing Sunrise will be traveling down to Tahoe with Ultimate Ears to put on this event as the last stop on the 10K Mile Roll. Everyone is welcome to join and it’s free, just sign up. The plan is to meet at the Bayview Trailhead in the early hours and tackle Maggies (South) Peak in Desolation Wilderness. The pre-dawn start will ensure participants arrive at the top just in time to watch one of the most beautiful beginnings to a day you will ever see. At the summit of this southern peak with an altitude of 8,699 ft. there are breathtaking views of Emerald Bay, Granite Lake and Lake Tahoe. This will be an experience you’ve never had before, so come on out and get after it!
