When the word “Classic” is used there are two definitions that come to mind:
- Something judged over a period of time to be of the highest quality of its kind.
- Remarkably and instructively quintessential.
The McCall Trailrunning Classic fits into the second definition. It’s a showcase of what makes McCall, Idaho one of the most beautiful places on the planet as well as a great place to have adventures in the great outdoors. In its sixth year this race is a perfect beginner’s introduction into the more formidable IMTUF 100 that happens later in the year. With big views, high altitude peaks and legendary singletrack this should be a race that’s on your schedule!
McCall Trailrunning Classic 2023 – Event Info
Cutoffs (40 Mile):
Boulder Lakes Trailhead: 6:00 PM
Finish at Jug Mountain Ranch: 8:30 PM
Brief Course Descriptions
20mi (approx 21mi). Same changes as 10 mile and a new Aid Station added at Louie Lake Dam.
40M (approx 41mi- same vertical gain as previous years). Same changes as 10/20mi above. From Jug Meadows Aid- climb Ladybug Summit and traverse the 1mi cross country ridge to the summit of Jughandle Mountain. Descend to new aid station at Louie Lake Dam (ATV access only). Do the Louie Lake Loop to Boulder Lakes Aid Station (same location as 2014). Climb to Shaw Twin, but the Aid Station there is now an unmanned water station (only 3 mi from last station at Boulder). After traversing the Boulder Mountain Summit, the Lake Fork drainage has been removed from the race. A new backcountry Aid Station (Kennally Creek Aid) has been added at the east end of Boulder Lake to begin the new climb and descent of Kennally Creek Summit. Head back down to Boulder Lakes Aid and finish the same as 2014- through IDL Lands and Jug Mtn Ranch.
Jug Mountain Ranch
The host of the McCall Trailrunning Classic lies only a few miles south of downtown McCall. Besides having world class gold and a fabulous restaurant JMR is the beating heart for the mountain bike & trail running community in McCall and the surrounding area. Why? First, you have access to miles of amazing singletrack that are well maintained that is perfect for beginners and intermediates to access along with being a great launching point into the rugged, high alpine above. Second, their amazing clubhouse means you have a great place to relax after a hard day on the trail. What more could you want?
