Don’t know the exact reason, but it seems like Lake Tahoe is going through a renaissance in many ways. Sure, it’s still a challenge to call this place your home, but at the same time, there’s a bunch of new companies and brands that have decided to make this their home base. What better way to celebrate this than creating an evening dedicated to showcasing just them? On Wednesday December 6th, come out to High Vibe Society, the NEW Art Collective in South Lake Tahoe! Doors open at 6 pm.
Not one but TWO movie premieres!
Nothing gets you more excited for the upcoming season than a movie premiere. A few weeks ago Local Freshies® held its annual pray for snow party showcasing the latest Transworld film along with our friends’ flicks by the Bird Flu Crew & free-heel legend Ty Dayberry. For the Local Lowdown, we decided it was another chance to premiere more ski film companies living in our Basin.
An Atmospheric River Runs Through It
Up first, is JonBob Productions newest film An Atmospheric River Runs Through It. This film showcases the turbulent and exciting winter of 2017 from the eyes of their crew. 10 atmospheric rivers pounded Lake Tahoe dropping feet of snow, massive amounts of rain, and eventually brought some of the best skiing the JonBob crew has ever experienced. Follow an extremely talented group of backcountry skiers as they tackle local zones with exceptional conditions.
There’s always Room for Improvement
The second film we’ll be showing is by Janky Films called Room for Improvement. Starting out as a web series, it features local skiers and snowboarders riding everything from California’s backcountry to ski resorts. Just like the JonBob crew, they capitalized on the record setting winter and were able to get in some amazing storm skiing along with a few cold, sunny days. Featuring deep powder, big lines and enormous jumps all the way into July, the film also includes a segment venturing down to South America to hit up Cerro Catedral in Argentina.
Find Christmas Gifts & Support Local at the same time
Last but not in the bit least, we’re giving local vendors based in Tahoe a platform to sell any type of gear from apparel to boards & skis. Here’s just a few companies that will be joining us:
Mountains Calling: An outdoor sports apparel company designed by and for mountain athletes.
TahoeLab: A rider-owned company using the highest quality materials and construction techniques to make bombproof snowboards, splitboards & skis. To read more about TahoeLab and a slew of other snowboard brands that still make their gear in North America, be sure to check out Snowboards made by Locals for Locals – 2017 edition.
Second Nature Threads: Compared to other major brands only looking at the bottom line, their focus is helping mother nature. They continually push to reduce their carbon footprint while simultaneously specializing in custom clothing to dapper Urban Streetwear.
