We are BIG fans of the Powder Highway. It’s a place of dreams, hardcore ski towns, and most of all cold dry snow. Except for Revelstoke, none of the other resorts (for now) are on the Epic or Ikon Pass, meaning you can get these ski areas pretty much to yourself. If that wasn’t enough, Panorama has now introduced an unbelievable deal for cat skiing.

Back in the 2019-20 season, Panorama brought back what they call the “Monster X” snowcat. Starting at the Never Never Land entrance, this hulking tiger will take a dozen powder hungry riders to the Monster Plateau. From there, you’ll have access to the Monster, Spectre, Ridgeback, Jekyll & Hyde and Get Out! As the names evoke, this is some seriously monstrous terrain. And from what we saw on our trip a few years ago, their double black diamonds are not an overstatement.

An Uber Black On Snow

So, what’s the deal? This isn’t a fully guided snowcat tour. Think of it as a chairlift with kickass tracks or for those city slickers out there, an Uber Black on snow. Don’t worry, this terrain is still considered inbounds meaning ski patrol will be doing full avalanche-control mitigation within Taynton Bowl. The plan is for them to operate it between 10 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. most Saturdays, Sundays and special dates throughout the season. If the price is still too tough to swallow, you can pick up a single $22 ride ticket or a 4 ride for $66.

If you haven’t read our travel guide about visiting Panorama, this resort’s vertical is BIG! We’re not talking “faux” big like some of the other resorts in North America. You literally can ski the full 4,019 vertical feet, making it the 5th biggest vertical drop on the continent. Pair that with some jaw-dropping views, unbelievable heli skiing, world class hot springs, and now cat skiing? You got yourself a dream vacation… or at least to us!

Our powder (cat) ambassador Agostino gives this two mittens up, especially now that Panorama has a snowcat… just like him!

  1. My brother and me, and our adult sons, are interested. The Dads on skis, The boys on boards.

I’ve been on 2 CMH heli-ski trips out of Revelstoke. Please advise on available group trips in Jan-Mar 2020
