On a summer’s day it seems that everyone visiting Tahoe is either in a rush to get up in the mountains for some seclusion or heading onto the lake to catch some rays. While we understand you want to make every minute count when visiting or living in one of the most beautiful places in the world, we would like to offer a suggestion. Slow down, chill out and relax. This is known as “Tahoe Time” or “Lake Time.” Now it may seem counter intuitive to your agenda, but I think you will find you actually see more. You notice the little things that make this place great. For example tucked away in an unimpressive stripmall-ish looking building on one of the busiest roads in town sits a locals favorite. During your hustle and bustle to see everything it would definitely slip right by unnoticed. I’m talking ice cream…Aloha Ice Cream!

Located on the South Shore, it’s a go to when in the area. As the name says everyone is welcome, grab the screen door handle and head on in. Like it or not you are instantly transported back to your childhood. The sweet smell of waffle cones and colorful tubs of creamy goodness bring a smile to your face. Don’t worry if you are more of a savory person there is salted caramel and different nutty options to choose from. The list goes on and on from homemade ice cream sandwiches, chocolate dipped bananas, malts, banana splits, sundaes and smoothies. They have the traditional mint chocolate chip and rockie road or more unique choices like pistachio almond. There are enough options to satisfy everyone’s taste. After selecting the ice cream and vessel to partake in a summer treat then head out the door and enjoy what Aloha has to offer in location. You can literally walk across the street and be at the beach in a few moments or if you want to get out of the sun right in front of the store they have an old school chairlift that is converted into a bench. Sitting in the chairlift looking out over Lake Tahoe with a slight breeze blowing, a few cars driving by, and an ice cream cone in your hand you’ll feel like you’re in heaven. Whether you chose Aloha for the start of the day or to wrap things up, this bliss will definitely be the cherry on top!
