SST John Fremont Winter California HistoryLooking back through time, art, music and sports inspire and create understanding on how we have come to where we are today. Knowing the evolution of such things as skiing can make us feel grateful & help stimulate us to move in a bigger direction. This is the intent of the documentary SST – short for Snowshoe Thompson. The film will provide an in depth look into the history of Sierra Nevada Mountaineering Technology. It starts with the original snow travelers and progresses all the way to present day. The vision will truly come full circle.

SST Documentary – A decade in the making

When Forest Jett returned from college, back home to South Lake Tahoe, he met up with his friend John Dayderry. It was through a casual conversation Forest came to find out John’s passion to tell the story of mountaineering technology. Over the last decade, John researched & gathered tons of useful content but had no idea where to start to share the impact & history he collected. Just like a total solar eclipse where the earth, moon, and sun align, Forest spent his college career working in film & knew just how to help. With three films produced, Forest had the experience for what it takes to tell this story through a camera’s lens.

Step One – Fundraising & Generate Awareness

SST Film Launch South Lake BrewingWith the goal of creating a documentary highlighting the evolution of the original snow travelers like Fremont, Carson, and Luther to today’s skiers & splitboarders, the task is monumental! To get this project off the ground, John & Forest setup an awareness meeting for this Friday, August 25th, at South Lake Brewing. Expect a presentation of what it is and how people can get involved.

Raffle & watch Snowshoe Thompson skis made in action

Besides gathering awareness, there’s a raffle filled with gift certificates & SWAG from eight local businesses to help raise money for this awesome cause. In addition, the SST crew will build skis IN PERSON using the original techniques from Snowshoe Thompson’s era. Yup! We’re talking with a hand planar! And, a replica of these skis will be auctioned off as the grand prize raffle item. You can’t put a price on something like this.

So, if you’re in South Lake Tahoe & want to learn more about Sierra Nevada History, come support an awesome idea and check them out!
