When You Can Only Have One – Best Womens Snowboard

In an ideal world, you have a wall full of snowboards. One for every condition, terrain type, and time of season. A winter quiver that makes anyone who sees it jealous. But if you plan on making that a quality assortment, the price tag will most likely kill the idea before it even gets started. Does that mean you’ll never have a day to remember because you’re stuck on a board of mediocrity? Not if you pick the right one to be your one-and-only. I’ll admit – I’m lucky to have a snowboard quiver I’m proud to call my own. Some given, some bought yet all loved for different reasons. But I recently rode a new one and it by far exceeds all the criteria for When You Can Only Have One And Compromising Isn’t An Option. I’m talking about the 2025 Weston Eclipse snowboard. It’s not only gorgeous to look at but rides like the perfect dream. A best womens snowboard kind of dream… and here’s why.

Journey to Weston Snowboards

Many moons ago, my backcountry mentor told me about a company called Weston and that I should try one of their splitboards. He knew I would fight that suggestion as I’m one of those people when I like what I like, I don’t like other things. But over that next season, I started to unlike my current splitboard setup so I took him up on his offer. He loaned me a splitboard, the Weston Eclipse model, and suggested I take it to a resort and then out for a tour. That way I got the full feel of the board.

The very first run at our local spot Sierra-at-Tahoe was one of the best groomer runs I’d had in years! And this was a splitboard. The best womens snowboard of the splitboard kind. I ripped down the trail and not the faintest hint of chatter. If I didn’t know I was on a splitboard, you’d had a hard time convincing me. I toured on it a couple times as well before giving it back, and I was a convert.

If Two Planks Are Good… One Must Be Better

Soon after that, I figured if the split version was this good, the solid one must be amazing. So I waited till the end of the season and went online to buy the Weston Eclipse (solid) snowboard in a 155 cm. Before you say anything about the size, I know it’s like a surfboard for me considering I’m only 5’4″. But I love riding a longer board and always have. Don’t let people tell you what you should or shouldn’t ride. If you like ’em short, go for it. But if you like ’em long and surfy, do that too!

Weston’s Powder Board

At this point, I had two Weston boards and Alex also had two. Our little Weston family had now grown to four… but why not make it even bigger. Several years ago when heli-skiing with Northern Escape Heli, they let me try out this crazy shaped, super short powder board that terrified me as soon as I looked at it. For someone who likes long boards, this thing looked more like a skateboard than a snowboard. Our guide was quite convincing that I should give it a try as the deep powder conditions were just what that little board was made for. Again, me not liking new things begrudgingly tried it. Holy Sh**! It was amazing and made my powder life so easy and actually enjoyable.

In 2023 I had the opportunity to get another Weston snowboard to add to my growing collection. Remembering that heli trip experience, I decided to leave my normal comfort zone and pick their powder board, the Revel. I named her Evy and she is the shortest board I have at 148 cm. Still not as short as some powder boards, but short enough for me. I adore this board. She make powder effortless and takes away the fear of sinking and never returning to the surface. Sometimes I feel like she cheats and makes the powder too easy. But after writing that, you can’t make powder too easy. You just make it more amazing.

Can The Same Really Be Different?

At the start of this 2024-25 season, I had everything I could want. I have my everyday Eclipse, my Powder Revel, and my Eclipse splitboard. All conditions, terrain, and activities covered. But did I? After having some spring break fun on the Powder Highway, I got my hands on the new 2025 release of the Weston Eclipse. Same size, different graphic, but same board, right? No, not right. Luckily a late spring season storm rolled through the Sierra and Lake Tahoe got pummeled in Miracle March fashion. It was the perfect recipe to try out this new board and see if having two of the same is even a thing to do.

Fast forward through a week on the hill and this new gal blew my mind. She rode like everything I loved about her older sister plus the Revel’s powder prowess but with upgrades in every nook and cranny the snow touched. She quickly earned the title of best womens snowboard.

Two Is Better Than One

Until now, I’d never had two of the same board just different seasons. But with how fast technology develops in snow sports and Weston’s attention to detail in every board they release, my two Eclipse boards may have the same name, but they are not the same board. The two areas I feel the most difference in is the stability and powder with tight trees. If my past stable factor was 8 out of 10, this new edition is a 10 out of 10. And same for tight trees with deep powder. I would find myself a little hesitant on the older version, causing me to speed check at times in the trees and break my flow. I do not feel that urge at all on this board. She rides so fluid, so solid with control that I don’t have to worry about speed and can just enjoy the powder moment.

Meet Lilith -My 2025 Eclipse

A seductress in Greek mythology. Known to some as a goddess of feminine rebellion, independence, and the untamed spirit of womanhood. She can be looked at as a dark spirit or one of fierce energy. The first moment I stepped onto this board, I knew her name would be Lilith.

Her Looks

We all like to think that what matters is only on the inside, but the new Weston Eclipse is absolutely gorgeous to look at. You can’t ignore that a stunning top sheet matters. The wood grain. The dark tones and mountainous landscape. The rays shooting from the eclipse depicted on the nose of the board is nothing short of beautiful. Artist Shannon Kennedy gets credit for this specimen and rightly so! It’s hard to stop looking at it. I caught myself constantly wiping off the snow so Lilith could shine in all her glory against the blinding white snow as other snow patrons went by, knowing they were giving her a second glance.

Her Talents

This section could be shorter if I listed what this board cannot do. Because it would be empty. But let’s relish the moment and lay out all the glowing qualities of this You Only Need One Board kinda gal. All conditions. Bell to bell. Pure confidence on the flats when balance matters. Like those pesky chair lift ramps or having to skate really fast behind your skier friends. But what about deep powder? Pshaw! Her camber center and rocker ends make the Eclipse a powder hound. No nose burials. No fighting to stay afloat. Just point and surf all the way to the bottom. And that mention before of the stability, that will serve you well in the trees too. I know. That sounds weird. But the pure balanced feel of this board won’t have you panicking in tight trees, trying to speed check and clipping trunks and wiping out for all the forest gnomes to see. You will feel confident gliding smoothly through the trees at just the right speed to keep your momentum and fluidity.

But what about groomers and those with the need for speed? Anyone with those annoying super speedster skier friends, this is the board for you… 100 percent! I’ve gone what feels like Mach 10 on both the old model and this new Weston Eclipse and never once felt any chatter or slippage on grabbing an edge. And in case you live on the Ice Coast or we have a bad day out West, no problem either. Alex always comments on how I make ice look so easy and relaxed while he’s clenching his cheeks just trying to hold on. Me, Lilith, and Liza (that’s my old Eclipse girl) roll our eyes at ice, and then shred the hell out of it.

Her Desires

I associate Lilith with mystery, (glowing) darkness, and femininity. She truly is a snow seductress. She’ll lure you into the snow but always deliver you from the clutches of Old Man Winter because she’s none other than a badass that knows what she wants and how to get it. I highly recommend you take the Weston Eclipse with you on any snowboard excursion. I wouldn’t worry about checking the weather, conditions, terrain… none of it. This board will ride to perfection across whatever you hand her. When you see terrain that looks too much for you, trust that you have a partner who can handle it if you mentally think you can too. I trust in Lilith and can’t wait to take her on the mountain next season for a full on slashing snow assault.

Final Verdict: The Perfect Only Child

The season may be winding down or over for some of you, but this is a great time of year to snatch up a new board with spring sales abounding. I always get excited when I see Weston’s lining the racks at ski resorts, knowing they are getting more and more popular. I’ve strictly ridden Weston boards for the last five years and I can’t see that ending anytime soon. If you’re looking for that one board to get you the most out of your ski season, the Weston Eclipse is a sweet choice. I used to pout if it wasn’t a powder day because I always want to ride the Revel. But now with Lilith in the snow quiver, any day is the perfect day.

And while I speak about my boards like they are women specific, they aren’t. Anyone at any level can shred these boards all winter long. I just like to name all my boards like they’re my gal pals, and we’re going out together to be mountain chicks. Some Weston boards come in shorter sizes while others are much longer for the height-endowed crowd, which can make you think more along the lines of gals vs guys. But it really just comes down to height, weight, and shoe size recommendations. But like I said before, I don’t ride the board matching my specs on the chart. I ride what I like and you should too. Check out Weston’s website to see all the current deals and consider treating yourself to a spring present. It will only get you more excited for next season.

P.S. A Time I Won’t Ride My New 2025 Eclipse

As I was finishing this article, I did think of a scenario that I would not be taking Lilith along with me to the resort. If I’m riding very early season or very late season and there are rock, root, and tree stumps all over the place, my new 2025 Weston Eclipse is not going out there! I have enough other old, beat up boards to risk core shots on spotty coverage and will save Lilith for the true mountain goods in mid-season. But, even if you don’t have that option and must take your one-and-only beloved Eclipse out to the dangers of dings and gouges, Weston purposefully makes the base a durable yet simplistic white and black graphic so any repairs are fast and easy to do and hide like they never even happened. I told you they think of everything.
